The application aims to assist endodontists, residents, dentists, and dental students in promptly evaluating the complexity of an endodontic case. It aids in selecting cases within their skill level, appropriately challenging cases, or cases suitable for their Board of Endodontics application. Additionally, there is a condensed set of criteria for clinicians seeking a more concise framework.

If a user encounters a case exceeding their capabilities, they have the option to refer the case. An automatic referral letter can be generated and printed with the necessary details. Users can capture photos using their phone, which proves beneficial when radiograph or clinical images are required.

• The patient can be informed that their case is challenging and recommends an endodontist for optimal care.
• An endodontist can schedule an appointment accordingly based on the complexity of the case.

Levels of Difficulty:

Similar to our Case Difficulty Assessment Form, the app categorizes cases into Minimal, Moderate, and High Difficulty levels. Users should review each case assessment to establish its difficulty level. If a case surpasses their expertise and comfort level, referral to an endodontist is advised.

Scores:

• Minimal Difficulty items are assigned 1 point.
• Moderate Difficulty items are allocated 2 points.
• High Difficulty items hold 5 points.

The following score ranges aid in deciding whether to proceed with treatment or refer:

• Less than 21 points: Suitable for treatment by dental students under faculty supervision tailored to their skill level.
• 21 – 40 points: An experienced dental student can treat with close supervision by an endodontist or refer to a graduate student or endodontist.
• Above 40 points: Cases unsuitable for predoctoral dental students. Patients should be referred to a graduate student or endodontist.

Assigning an objective point score intends to help dental students critically assess treatment complexity for each patient. It assists in making patient-centered treatment decisions and enhances the student's learning experience.
